feel your heart beat

Chastity sighed and lowered her book. “Come over here,” she ordered, motioning with a fluid curl of her fingers.

“It’s freezing,” Tatiana complained.

“And whose fault is that?” Chastity glanced up from the book she was reading with an eyebrow lifted, turning a page idly. “You said ‘no magic for a week when we go Muggle-camping’, and it turned out to be freezing.”

Tatiana ignored her. “I’m cold,” she complained petulantly.

“If we had our wands, this wouldn’t have happened,” the redhead replied superciliously, turning another page in her book without reading it as if to prove a point.

“Who knew America would be this cold?” the brunette added, still ignoring the other woman.

“Everyone who was smart enough to not camp in Vermont right before winter.”

The taller woman pouted. “I’m rubbish at geography!”

“I’ve noticed.”

Proposing camping a few weeks ago hadn’t been received particularly warmly, but the brunette had worn down her girlfriend by wheedling for ages to get away from magic, if only for a little bit, so there they were – in the north of the United States, on the coldest day of the year so far.

At first, Tatiana had tried to make the best of it by building a fire manually (she’d discovered a spider hiding in the log and had screeched and abandoned her effort), trying to pitch the tent by herself (it had collapsed in a heap around her), and setting up the sleeping bags (only to discover that they’d left one of them back home in England). At this point she was tired, hungry, and very cold.

Considering that her sleeping bag had been the one left behind, Tatiana was currently sleeping in the fabric bag that the tent was stored it, but it was clearly not meant to be slept in. The fabric stretched uncomfortably over her shoulder blades, and it was absolutely useless in keeping the cold winds out (because with their lackluster tent, the cold was only getting in faster).

Evidently, she was pouting enough for her girlfriend to notice, for after a minute, Chastity sighed and lowered her book. “Come over here,” she ordered, motioning with a fluid curl of her fingers.

Tatiana didn’t need to be told twice. She quickly pulled herself out of her sleeping bag and slid into her girlfriend’s beside the redhead, wrapping her arms around the other.

“If I didn’t know better, I’d say that you were only doing this for the extra heat,” Tatiana murmured.

“Who says I’m not?” Chastity replied, a slight smirk curving up one of her lips.

“I do,” the brunette declared, pressing a kiss to the other’s lips. “Now, is it just me, or can you see the stars from down here?”

“We messed up the tent,” Chastity sighed before tracing a pattern of stars. “Hey, look, Cassiopeia!”

“The upside down princess?” Tatiana wrinkled her nose and laughed. “How romantic.”

“Hey, I could have pointed out the one your Dad was named after and ruined the mood,” Chastity shrugged.

“Such a charmer,” the brunette snickered, settling herself into the curve of the other’s arms.
